January 2001, a multimillion-dollar request to support the goals and vision of the Laura P. and Leland K. Whittier VPICU project located at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles was granted. That request included :
VPICU/NACHRI database software manufacturing and distribution. The software will promote practitioner access to data and quality control measurements facilitating the improvement of research and pediatric care practices.
JPL automated data analysis. This component will allow analysts at JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratories), Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, and Johns Hopkins Medical Center to integrate and facilitate database use while developing protocols for site expansion.
CHLA based telemedicine network. Creation of a real time video conferencing platform (via ISDN) designed to increase access to critical care intensivists for children at remote sites while providing a mechanism for collegial collaboration.
Each expansion aspect includes personnel, equipment and space (both physical and virtual) necessary to advance the original VPICU vision and goals.
